Happy Feet Friday

This is what my feet look like on the way home from the gym. Sandals and socks. I am a true fashion faux pax.I found the stickers I used to use as incentive to be quiet during story time when I did group therapy for 4 and 5 year olds in North Carolina. I decided I deserved stickers for my work-out calendar. And that, my friends, is my work-out calendar. And the number on the 26th should say 213. WTF? I finally start exercising and I GAIN WEIGHT? What is up with THAT? And don't think I'm just gently sauntering on the treadmill either. I BOOK IT. Arms and everything. Sigh. I named my crusade though. "Not Fat By 40." My mom says I should change it to something more positive like "Fit By 40." But I told her that it's the fat that motivates me, not the fit. So whatever. I am not happy. But it doesn't mean I'm quitting. Usually when something like that happens, I say "The hell with it." And go down to the hospital cafeteria and get a breakfast pizza. But I did not. I had fiber one cereal and yogurt instead.

In more exciting news, my mom and dad are bringing my Grammie to see me tomorrow! She has never been to my house in Sioux Falls, so I'm super pumped. And I'm making a lemon layer cake with lemon cream cheese frosting. Pictures on my cooking blog on Monday.

I support your exercise goals (whatever you decide to call it) 100%!!!

And when you're ready to run/walk a DC area race, just drop a line.

Oh, what fun, a visit from your gram! And lemon cake to boot.

I'm with your mom - I think you need a more upbeat name, how about fabulous at 40? Or Fit, fantastic and 40?

Light weights added to your walking / running routine will boast your metabolism making your body a super calorie burning machine even in your sleep. While I'm always trying to loose that last 5 pounds, I consider myself to be Fit at 50.

Also, do you drink diet soda? Diet Soda is a KNOWN diet killer.. there is so much sodium in it that people who switch to water or green tea see an instant (in a week) drop of 5 pounds or more... Just sayin....

agree totally with Nilsa...you are just building muscle. do measurements for your body as a gauge instead, or something of the like, and don't measure again for a month or more. it's a WAY better measure of things. i have a little story to tell about gaining weight myself. you just reminded me i have to post it.

I bet you are just building muscle. Or maybe you had to poop. Either way - no need to worry about 213.

Have a wonderful visit. And with wonderful food!

I don't understand why socks with sandals is considered to be such an unacceptable fashion statement. There's nothing inherently ugly in wearing socks with sandals, plus it's soooo comfy.

I saw something in the newspaper earlier this week, some plastic surgeon wrote in exercise tips and actually said not to run or jump because when you run and jump it causes things to fall.......eventually you'll get saggy everything....I always knew there were good reasons that I didn't do either of the two.....

Anyway, you're doing a great job. In the first month, you'll mostly only lower your blood pressure and get internal things back in shape, the second month, you'll start losing weight......and eventually, you'll start building muscle....Keep up the good work.

I like your stickers, and that cake sounds dreamy.

Ditto Nilsa. Go by your clothes. I've weighed 150 at a size 10,8 and 6. Scales are not helpful.

I use stickers for myself & working out too! (or a stamp). For some reason seeing nice tidy lines of stickers makes me feel like I'm accomplishing something.

I am making a chart for Dahlia for potty training with the same concept because lordy, SHE LOVES STICKERS!!!

Keep working it, girl!

Measure! If you're working out a lot you definitely need to measure. And see how clothes fit you.

And you'll post that lemon cake recipe, natch. *Ahem*

I too will be making a lemon cake this weekend. It must be spring!

"It's the fat that motivates me, not the fit." Love this. ME TOO. Maybe I need stickers.
