Happy Feet Friday

These are the feet that make me a runner! Go feet, go!

There's a chill in the air this morning. I am not on board with that. But I've been plotting. I'm thinking about painting my apartment. Gay Boyfriend told me that I could do whatever I wanted with it when I moved in almost 3 years ago. I thought I'd just be content with the off white walls by covering them with my paintings and artwork. I'm not anymore. I'm building a nest for winter. A warm and cozy nest with blankets and pillows strewn around, just waiting to cuddle up in. With terra cotta walls and new soft lighting that reflects and glows. What do you think? Any ideas? Yellow is out, out, out. Did you know that yellow is an intensifier? Any feeling you're feeling when you go into a yellow room is magnified. Even sadness and sorrow against the lightness of it. So we will have none of that. And no blues, greens or greys either. Think warm. Think Kate. Think about what might make a person happy when it's 40 below and someone wants to stab themselves in the neck with a fork they're so depressed.

I'm so dramatic.

But don't you think it's a good idea? I never thought I'd still be living there three years later. The crazy cat lady in the basement. But it works. I have my garden and my kitchen and I have another body upstairs in case The Crazy starts to win. It's where I live right now. It not might be ideal, but it works for the time being. And if that's so, I might as well start to make it more of my own.

In other news, I've been trying to take off these last three pounds that I wanted to before the race. And aside from all the other crap I've tried, eating a bigger breakfast has done me some good. Down one! Which is still 15 down from where I started. So yeah, me!

How about red in your apartment? It is the color of our new bedroom and I'm really digging it!

Any news on the date you had before going on vacation?

How about a slightly different off-white?

Definitely happy feet!

I am a HUGE fan of color. It's so important to me. My old place was quite small and I left most of it cream but I had an ORANGE kitchen - really, really strong orange - and periwinkle bedroom and both spaces felt so happy and good to me. I know you said no blues, but seriously, periwinkle has enough purple to not exactly be blue, and to me anyway, it felt like waking up in a hug.

The best thing about paint is that it's so easy to change. I totally vote for you picking a color that makes you feel good and trying it out.

I'm a big fan of red. Have had it in the past two homes. But not fire engine red. Warm, deep, brick, wine reds.

Tweed is an nice pairing with a red along those lines. As is a good olive in the same tone.

Pink is good for the sads. Think of a rich rose. Problem is, it can get pepto really fast, so you have to beware. But everyone I've talked to said pink is where to go if you have sads.

And I also believe in a pale blue ceiling to represent the sky. I also like pale yellow walls.

My favorite cpaints are Pratt and Lambert. I love love love bayou -- it's blue but just magnificent.

I'm not sure which color, but you need to include white stenciling. Saw it in a magazine the other day, but I want you to try it first.

Terra cotta sounds very warm and inviting. One caveat: I always find that paint colours look darker when they're on the wall than on the paint chip. One of my friends once tested paint colours by painting large boards with various shades and propping them up against her walls in various positions of light and shadow. That seemed to work well.

I agree with terra cotta, although I have to say I think there are good uses for yellow. I've been thinking about painting lately too - mostly my kitchen, and I think a very pale creamy yellow would be awesome in there. And since I'm mostly happy when I cook anyway, I don't mind the intensification factor.

Any color will do, so long as it isn't electric. If you want to wake with a major headache, go electric. If you want to wake up feeling relaxed, go with something softer.

I love the idea of painting the apartment - shoot, just the act of sprucing it up will be cheery! What about doing one room a pretty blue - sort of to remind you of blue skies?

Go to Home depot and find the Glidden paint color Toasted Coconut. It's a muted orangish color. Fabulous!

I'm thinking cinnamon. It's warm and fragrant and spicy.

I didn't know that about yellow. My bedroom is shades of yellow and cream. But I think it's okay. Bedrooms should be full of emotion.
