Happy Feet Friday

I did it. I've been saving up for these babies for awhile. And thanks to the encouragement and tutelage of Barefoot Neil, I've been walking around the block for weeks, taking a few little jig jogs here and there and finally went for a "real" run in them last weekend. A mile. It was too far for my first run in them. Beware! You would not believe how a "shoe" so completely changes your form - for the better! Upright, short, swift, light, pop, pop, pop strides. I don't intend to run in them full time like some people do, but they are an amazing training tool for me. Since I started wearing them, when I have to run on the treadmill, it no longer shakes like a rhinocerous is on it. It stays quite still. Which, in my case, is a Very Good Thing. So, um. Ask you shall receive? The internet is a glorious thing, people. I asked for books and look what came yesterday from The Good Cook. A box full of books! It's like early Christmas around here. She even sent me a little note telling me which one she loved the most, and it's the one I'm going to start with. At this point, the choices seem endless! Wahoo!
And in case you forgot that I like to cook, this is what I've been having for dinner every night. Poached eggs on toast with slices of my remaining garden tomatoes. It's kind of the best supper ever.
And it might snow today. Squeeeee! Have a good weekend, everyone! I intend to.

You sound happier today and I'm glad.

I'm curious about those shoes as well - I read this article in The New Yorker about Alberto Salazar and it touches on running form and whether or not to change your natural stride. No lie, it was fascinating. Oh jeez, I'm turning into a running nerd!

Also - Rhett Butler's People - good book (if you enjoyed Gone With the Wind, which I did).

Lots of good books in the pile including one of my favorites -- The Heart is a Lonely Hunter.

Please let us know on those shoes. I saw someone here in Portland wearing them and thought, oh, wet feet.

Fancy shoes, lady!!! Interesting how you are much lighter on your feet now - makes me want to try them.

Those books look great - have you ever read Garp? Loved it, plus the Frank McCourt books as well. Did the one I sent ever arrive?

Oh, I finished Dean's book while on vacation and I LOVED IT!!! He is amazing.

I'm just going to say it. Those are the ugliest shoes I have ever seen in my life! LOL... but if they make you happy, go for it.

Enjoy the books and don't forget to share!!

Yay! Vibrams! I am excited to hear about them. It sounds like you are working in to them, which is good. I have heard of too many people getting over-excited about them and getting injured running too far in them!

Those shoes are wild! So, do you wear them with rainbow-striped knee socks with the separate toe-pockets?
