Prodigal Son

You should just leave now, but I have amazing news from the backyard. All summer I had a bunny. I call him bun bun. I know. Sickening, isn't it? And for some reason, I know it's a boy. I don't know why but it is. He would sit underneath the lawn chairs and never moved an inch when I came out to read or smoke. (Yes, I smoke. Judge me or whatever you want to do. I quit drinking and for now, that's enough. Way more than enough.) He would just sit and nibble on the grass and watch me. I came to rely on my bun bun to keep me company in the backyard. Glorious Garden never seemed to give him pause. People kept telling me he'd eat everything, but he never did. Or maybe he did, but I didn't notice.

And then he disappeared. I've been looking for him for about a month. I figured it got cold and he was hibernating or holing up in my windowsill or something. But he was gone. And I was sad about it. Maybe he'd gotten eaten by the Garden Monsters or something. Or the neighbor's cat. But if you've ever heard a bunny scream, you'd know it was dying. It's terrifying. And I've had the windows open until just recently. I like the fresh air, no matter how cold it gets. But sadness usually prevailed every morning when I went out to drink my coffee and read my morning meditation. Bun bun was gone.

Until tonight. He was there! In the backyard! Just like he used to be! Only he was a bit more skittish than normal. I'm chalking that up to not communing with me every morning for four weeks. But he didn't run. Bun bun is back. And I can only hope he doesn't get eaten this winter.

Aw, I'm glad your bun bun is back. That is very sweet.

I try not to get attached to things like rabbits, kind of frail. I had a tiny dwarf bunny, very beautiful and sweet - I named him Pipkin. He died after my tom cat got in the ROOM with him - died of fright or a heart attack. Sad times.

Your bunny story gave me a smile!

Are pics of this cute bun bun forthcoming? I'm glad he's back.

We had a skunk living under our back porch for awhile. His nickname was a little less cute (we called him "the fucking skunk").

We were not sad when he got eaten. Or run over. Or whatever happened to him. He disappeared on day and hasn't come back.

I'm a big fan of wildlife, as long as it doesn't live under my porch and stink.

Maybe the bunny knew it was going to snow today?

We have rabbits in our park (that my dog loves to chase, if she weren't on leash!). They disappear for stretches of time in the winter, but always reappear from time to time. I guess they don't go into complete hibernation mode ...

It's funny how bunnies just show up out of nowhere like that. That happened to me when I was a teenager. They're nice to have around that way - I don't think I'd want one in a cage, and have to responsible for it.

If I was there, I'd have a smoke with you, and watch Bun Bun frolic in the snow.

BunBun hopped down to Cancun for a little partying. Wanted to hook up with a Bunorita or two.

He's back to a more sensible life now.

I wonder what bun bun has been doing?

Try to feed him when you come out. Maybe one day he'll let you pet him.

I'm glad your Bun-bun came home. :-) If you're in a position to have pets I HIGHLY recommend bunnies! Indoor bunnies are like dogs that weigh two pounds. :-) We have a Netherland Dwarf named Bonsai and we're really happy with her. Children aren't good for them though.... so there is a downside.

They quasi-hibernate when it's super cold...
