Obsessed or Enthralled. I'm Not Sure

So, I didn't go to the gym today. My bolts were bothering me (broken leg, if you haven't been following) and my ankle was swollen because of that. Gay Boyfriend's sister is a nurse that works in my building and when she came to have lunch with me today, she walked in on me pondering my ankles and said, "Left one? Yep. Swollen." She minces no words. That's why Gay Boyfriend and I get along so well. I'm just like his sister when it comes to dealing with drama.
So, I decided to take the day off from the gym. I mean, I love going to the gym. But I don't want to ruin it by getting an injury I can't undo. And since I know nothing about fitness or working out or anything like that - I figure - if it hurts - don't do it. Right?
I did my regular routine when I got home. Wash dishes, surf the internet, read a little bit of my book, and I got stir crazy. CRAZY. I'm serious. The crazy is like - insane to me. If you've never had The Crazy, you don't get it, but the voices and the self doubt and the "Oh my God, the world is ending" closes in on you and makes the world seem impossible, so I went out to my car where my shoes and my iPod are and I walked. Like a crazy person. Up and down the block. Around the hospital, running on occasion (without a bra - I mean seriously - when I'm home for the night, I'm done with the bra) and I just walked and ran and walked and ran and what? I still feel a slight bit nuts. But it's better. I want to keep going, but I know my broken leg doesn't want me to. Sigh.
I had no idea that The Crazy could be tamed by running. If I thought it would do any good, I'd walk and run all night long.

Whatever works, works. I hope you don't suffer any negative side-effects from walking while injured. Hang in there and I hope The Crazy gives you a break.
Can you package me up just a leetle bit of the crazy? Just enough to get my fat ass up off the godforsaken sofa?
This is why you have to get into weight training - when your ankle is giving you a little trouble, you could do a weight routine!
Stir Crazy - I haven't had that for awhile. It usually happens to me in the winter, now that it is spring I have to much to do or at least to much to procrastinate about!
Hang in there. Did the good nurse suggest icing that ankle? Have you thought about an ankle brace, just a light one?
Ohh that is what got me started running. Was a way to calm the inner voices.
Can you bike? Even on the recumbant at the gym? I've become the queen of alternate exercise options since my injury. I do the elliptical as it's less impact on my hip. Not sure how that would impact your bolts.
The crazy is totally tamed by running or bike riding. It needs to be silenced by bouncing or wind. True. You can look that up in the crazy book.
That stinks that the bolts/screws are bugging you and that you got all antsy being trapped in the house. Maybe a workout dvd where you can skip the things that would aggrevate the bolts would help?
I have screws, pins and a plate in my left leg/ankle! We are bionic twins! One of the screws BROKE IN HALF and is working its way out. Um, that does LOADS of good for my ANXIETY.
gah. Hope you are feeling better soon!
I totally hear you on the bra thing. Once I'm home and in my comfy clothes, the bra is NOT going back on, nor the contact lenses or the makeup. My husband has learned that if he wants to go out for dinner, he'd better let me know as soon as I walk in the front door. There's a very small window of opportunity there.
Bras.....what are they? When you are the reigning champion of the ittiy bitty......committee you have no use for a bra.
Wear a bra when running! You don't want to get hit in the face or your knees (alternately).
Exercise does amazing things to and for a person. But, overexercise can be really bad for the body. The key is carrying that high you get from working out over to the rest days ... I'm sure you'll find the balance.
Going to my gym makes the world a safer place.
