It Has Begun

I put in most of the garden on Sunday. The magic date is Mother's Day around here, but I just couldn't wait. My green beans did a whole lot of nothing last year - mostly due to the rain and cold early summer. It never got hot enough to produce fruit, but I have dreams. Yes. I. Do. So I built a green bean tee pee. Some beans are bushes, some are climbers. I bought climber seeds and then I built a trellis for them. Out of old and rotting tiki torches. I'm all about gardening on the cheap.I put them upside down and dug them in.
See? I put the tops in the ground to stabilize them.
Then I wired the tops/bottoms together.
Tee Pee on the cheap. The seeds get planted around each footing.
Check this out. I had in mind a pretty piece of trellis for my peas, but Gay Boyfriend was mowing the lawn while I contemplated it. Apparently this piece of trellis has a purpose and he told me to search around for something else. I found these tie hangers in the garage, sunk them in and built my trellis with twine. Aren't I creative? Doesn't it look cool?
I wish I understood MS Paint, and then I'd narrate it for you in picture, but on the far right is cantaloupe seeds, then the green beans tee pee, then beets, then radishes, then a couple of perennial flowers, then the peas, then turnips and red cabbage.
On the left is the oregano I dug up and relegated to a pot because it wanted to take over the whole garden, next to that is arugula, then a mesclun mix lettuce, then nastursiums. I like the flowers and apparently, you can eat their peppery greens.
And here's the lavender I didn't think would make it over the winter. I'm holding off on tomatoes and peppers. It's a little too early, but I can't wait for my seeds to sprout~! Whaoooo!

I love the teepee for the beans and the tie-trellis is genius! You have a lot of stuff in that garden! I hope we see progress reports over the summer.

Here's to happy gardening!

This is not about gardening, but Christina Aguleria (joke if you want :) ) has a new single out and its SUCH a fun work out song. It's called "Not myself tonight." Call me a creeper, but I totally thought of you. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. PS: The video is totally oversexed and not work appropriate. Just wanted to warn ya :)

I don't know if you've seen the movie Silver Streak (and if not, this won't make sense), but here's some gardening advice from someone who edited a gardening book:

"-One tip is...

always be nasty to nasturtiums.

- Is that so?
- They love that.

- They like it rough?
- The rougher, the better.

-Great."

Enjoy your garden!

P.S. clever idea using the torches as a trellis. Way to recycle!

Even if I did have a backyard, I'm not sure growing vegetables is what would interest me. But, watching you make your little corner of earth grow and flourish? Love it and I love how happy it makes you!

My lavender is sprouting. I have kept it in my kitchen until I'm certain the cold has gone for good. BTW if I become insanely rich, I'll hire you to be my gardener.
#1 you're good at it and #2 I can tell you like it.

Gardens are hopeful things aren't they? may yours bring forth bushels of food and lots of fun summer memories of fat tomatoes sandwiches and long leisurely summer suppers.
Thanks for your kind words at my place. This young adult emerging stuff can be messy. They have to do it and you know they have to do it. And trying to lend a hand only prolongs it and adds layers of conflict. Like the alchemists said, your material turns darkest just before it becomes gold....I am ready for a little bit of the gold already

So excited for your garden! I'm not going to be able to do much with mine this summer, so I fully intend to live vicariously through yours.

Look at that! My favorite is the tie hangers.
