My Version of Priceless (or Poverty, your call...)

10:26 AM Edit This 10 Comments »
I just got "the call." New spark plugs and wires... $330. New catalytic converter.....$275. Servicing my transmission....$170. Oil change and tire rotation.....Don't know and it really doesn't matter at this point. Choosing not to fix the transfer case ($250) and back wiper motor ($300)? Priceless.....

I'm officially poor. I have been gleefully hoarding my tax return, thinking that I just might eek out a little play money after my car is fixed. No such thing. Sadness prevails. And I don't like that we're getting bonus checks from the government (something just seems wrong about that), but at this point? Bring it on, my friends.

See, this is the kind of thing that freaks me out about leaving NYC.

Cars and maintenance, houses and maintenance...I'll have to DRIVE and I won't be able to sleep on the way to work anymore.

Oh well, I'm still leaving.

BONUS CHECKS! I'm super excited about my bonus check. I'm going to buy a gallon of gas with mine :-)

The best advice I can give is, when your circumstances allow it, get rid of that Explorer/Suburban/whatever and find a good condition Honda Civic. Good fuel economy and super reliable. Since diesel is approaching $4 a gallon, I've been doing my running around in my wife's old car, a 1993 Civic with over 230,000 miles under it's belts. With the exception of a broken AC, it runs just great.

I know that is probably useless to you, but us guys can't help but offer unsolicited advise when it comes to cars.

Car troubles always makes me want to become Amish. Just give me a horse and I am all good:-D

I always have grand ideas about my tax return, and that is usually when the bathroom toliet overflows and all the rugs need to be replaced, or the ceiling caves in. Sigh! What can we do?

I know what you mean about the bonus checks. At this point, that bonus check probably means I can move into a cheaper apartment, which would mean that maybe I could get the bill collectors off my back. Which would be nice. Sigh. I hate car maintenance. My car needs some work done and I just can't do it.

Ugg - I feel you pain - I've put $4,000 into my car in the last 5 months and it's a 2004!!

I SO hear you. I should write a post listing all the things wrong with The Beast, and I have no $$ to fix any of it right now.

I have nothing helpful to offer, other than the shared commiseration. =)

Tax refunds - who gets to spend them on anything fun my commiserations too.
