Run, Rain, Baby, Food

My weekends start off bright and early these days with 7 a.m. running club. This week was: run 7 minutes, walk 3. And then we did it four times. And strangely? I really didn't struggle at all. Isn't that weird? Last week was so, so hard with the run 5 minutes, walk 2.5, five times. I don't get why this one was easier. Maybe because it wasn't a million degrees. Maybe it's because I'm finally getting it? But isn't that cool? I did it! Mosquitos don't find me very tasty, which I'm very grateful for, because the trail that we run has standing water all along the route and four of the girls were just COVERED in welts by the time we got back to the gym.

We're having monsoons here in South Dakota. Last weekend, we got over four inches of rain. Same this weekend. Some areas got over 7 inches in two hours. And then again this morning, we had a wicked, wicked storm with a torrential downpour and crazy lightning. When it rains, the water has no where to go, so it just sits there. People's basements are flooded, we have flash floods every time it rains now and someone invariably drives into a flooded street, kills their car and totals it because the engine gets screwed up. South Dakota even made the national news for a huge chunk of hail measuring over 9 inches in diameter. Now, I've watched The Day After Tomorrow (my favorite movie) a million times. And this is exactly what happened before the next ice age came. And since all movies are scientifically correct, I have to believe that's what's going to happen. So, Winning at Winter will soon turn into survival of the fittest around here. I think I better learn how to kill things.

Or move.

I spent most of the weekend holding the baby. I even got to take a nap with him on Saturday, all cuddled up on the bed. I was so sleepy, but I couldn't close my eyes because I couldn't stop looking at him!
This is me not holding him. I had to share. Hrmph.
Cowgirl and Hippie Tom made dinner on Saturday night. It was an incarnation of something they'd had at a restaurant. Baked tilapia with an asiago cream sauce over a bed of angel hair pasta and served with a jalapeno, tomato, garlic salsa. It was to DIE for. I kid you not.

Sunday afternoon, I fulfilled my hairdresser fantasies (I wanted to go to beauty school SOOOO bad when I was younger. My mom said she'd pay for a college education, but not beauty school. Apparently they had high hopes for me. Ha!) and put extensions in one of my friends' hair. It was so super easy. I couldn't believe how easy it was. If you think you might want to do it, go for it! Fun!

Then I cooked with my bounty from the farmer's market. (All that came out of my mouth for Cute Farmer was, "I went on your website. I know where your farm is now." And he said, "So, you know how we do things then." And I said, "Yep." And then I blushed and ran away. Sigh.)

I made a fresh corn and heirloom tomato salad (those are my favorite tomatoes - green sausage. I bought every single one my tomato lady had and that's Cute Farmer's corn) with a homemade balsamic vinagrette. I had to stop shoveling it in my mouth so I could store it away for lunch today.
Then I made a Southwestern Zucchini Quesadilla (at least that's what I'm calling it.) Every single thing in there except for the cheddar is from the market! That's shredded zucchini, shredded carrot, minced red onion, black bean and corn salsa and shredded cheddar cheese.
And that's it - all melty from the pan and sitting on the foil I wrapped it up in to bring to work today.
The good doctor is writing inflammatory things on his blog and he's giggling to himself as infuriated people comment on it. He cracks me up. He just asked me how to spell exhibitionism. I have no idea what he's writing about. We make such a good team.

That is a beautiful photo of you and the boy. And YUM.. that quesadilla looks good.

The running thing. Sometimes taking a few days off really gets the running thing kicked in. Whenever I have slacked off a bit I think I'm going to have a lousy run and then, viola - it's fantastic... go figure.

What's the good doctor's blog? I think I want to read that (confidentially)...

So sad about all the flooding.. and you sound like TBHITW he is always predicting the end of time... LOL.. me - I'm like take in the first wave....

BOOBIES! Nice, my friend. Very nice *high five* P.S. Have you lost weight? You have skinny-ass arms.

I only run when chased. You're my hero.

Good for you on the running! That must feel great.

That baby is just so much delicious cuteness! Oh, want to squeeze and nibble!

As for Cute Farmer - listen, you're living in a land of non-chatty farming people. This is my ancestry - farmers of few words. It's not you; it's him.
