Vibrant Vegetables and Sleeping Babies

First, the highlight of my weekend. A nap with Munchkin Number 3. He is a furnace baby. Sweaty, hot, and smells SOOOOO good. The Fertile Crescent is fading fast. It is to maybe snow this week. And since I took Friday off and it was a beautiful fall day, I decided it was time to pull the tomatoes. (I pulled the green beans last week.) Was a sad, sad day for me, but it's been a good six months. I planted the first weekend in May and it's the fourth weekend in October. I'd say that was a good run.

Before.
And after. The parsnips are still in the ground waiting for a frost to make them sweet, and there are two butternut squashes left on the vine. I didn't want to deal with the lima beans that day, but will do so soon.
The spoils. Five million cherry tomatoes and about 10 larger tomatoes that I will put in a bag to ripen. The green cherries will be made into my Grandma's green tomato relish that my dad likes. She was tickled. TICKLED! To have me ask for the recipe. It is an honor to have received it from her and I will make it in her stead for years to come.
I re-created the Crostini with Herbed Cream Cheese and Roasted Vegetables that I had at the Harvest Dinner back in September. Recipe tomorrow, but look! Look at these lovely peppers and onions. I can't get over how vibrant they are!
There will be no running for the next two weeks and that makes me so sad. I plan to ride the recumbant bike at the gym two or three times a week and I'm going to try doing pushups. Check this out! Seriously. Click on it. Anyone want to join me? I'm issuing a challenge here.

First of all, that is one of the most perfect sleeping babies I have ever seen.

Secondly, push-ups kick ass. I love them, and think they are close to a perfect exercise.

I accept your challenge. You'll need to remind me of it, though, since I'll forget from day to day. I'll make myself a sign to try to remember. When does this start?

Your veggies look fantastic! I told my husband that we need to grow cherry tomatoes next year because yours look so delicious. :-)

I tried the 100 pushup challenge a few years ago and sadly, I can't do it because my wrist starts to hurt after about 10 pushups. Stupid track injury.

I'm jealous of your tomatoes - the freaking birds have had their way with mine since I've been out-of-town for so many weekends.

I'm totally in for the challenge! Let me know when we are starting!

I can't decide if I'm more jealous of the baby photo or the tomato photo. No, hands down the baby wins. :) What a sweet photo! Is there anything sweeter than a sleeping baby? I don't think so!

I'm willing to give the push up challenge a try. I even printed off the weekly directions. I've got to do the initial test to see what level I'm at. Right now I'm only capable of doing modified push ups, but maybe after mastering 100 modified push ups I can graduate to regular push ups. I've been wanting to increase my upper body strength for some time so this is a great challenge for me!
Let me know when you're planning on starting.

Here's to sleeping babies, prolific gardens and push up partners!

I don't know that I can take on that push-up challenge now. But that baby? I'll take him any day! What a cutie!

Love the look of contentment on your face with that adorable baby! You are so right - they are little heaters! Maybe you can keep borrowing him over the winter - you know, to save energy and whatnot. ;)

The push up challenge sounds interesting - when are you going to start it? (notice my non-committal response to your challenge, lol)

Er, no push-ups for me, thanks. But if I can find a sweaty, sleepy baby I'll have a nap with him to show my solidarity!

LOOK at that delicious little face! How did you not just gobble him up?!?
